The September Issue

Lest my mother inlaw think that I don’t actually peruse the items she sends to me from Gigi …

I decided to get my Tavi Gevinson-on by plucking out a few choice visuals from the September issue of
VOGUE 1996!

Vogue 1996

Gotta love Gigi. She keeps everything!

Remember when Kate Moss was cute? I love me some Grace Coddington, but what AD chose these font colors for the cover? OMG, puke much?

Anyway, September 1996 was kind of a big deal. I’d just graduated from PVHS in June and was headed to university to study Graphic Design (whatever THAT was). Hard to believe the field was in its infancy when I started college. Trip out. If it weren’t for computers, I’d probably be an interior designer today.

Now, to the visuals!

If you knew me in high school, and for most of my time at Davis for that matter, you know I had a real love of garishly brown lipstick. But don’t go on thinking I wasn’t “on trend”; the proof (provided by L’OREAL) below:

BrownTown from L'Oreal

I’m pretty sure the brown I used to wear was from an eyeliner; whatever works!

I see you, Tyty:

Tyra Banks for XOXO

What exactly is Tyra “modeling” here? I can’t for the life of me remember what XOXO was … clothing? Make-up? Perfume? The latter two would make sense since there’s no CLOTHES in this ad!

Moving on -

Didyaknow that your favorite ex-MTV VJ turned white rapper and Samantha’s boytoy/love of her life (from Sex and the City) were once-upon-a-time Tommy Hilfiger models?:

TH - Full Ad

I see you Simon Rex and Jason Lewis!

Ahhh, the good ole days … before Demi Moore got all crazy and hopped on stage with Snoop Dogg and did some, ahem, “dancing”:

Donna Karan - Demi and Bruce

And finally, a sex-say shot of your favorite Project Runway judge Michael Kors:

Michael Kors 1996

Does he say “Fashion is always changing” a lot? ‘Cause I swear I hear that line every time a Fashion Television commercial comes on.

Thanks for reading!

The N(in)JA is ONE!

Not officially – his birthday is on the 2nd. But we did rock out at his party yesterday!

Noell and Mami - bday cake

Was definitely feelin’ the pirate/Moby Dick theme.

Added bonus: Noell was on the move! Practically running everywhere.

Thanks for the good times, familia Rochemont!

Date Night 2010

Lol. I can probably count on one hand how many “dates!” Jay and I have been on this year. Sigh.

We got free tickets to the City+Colour show @ the Molson Ampitheatre, so we decided to make a night of it Downtown, scooping some dinner up before heading to the concert.

Me and Jay date

The show was great … so nice to watch an actual musician sing and play and you know (because he tells’ya) that there isn’t anything else he’d rather do, or anything else he’s good at. Such passion; it’s contagious!

There were some pretty funny things seen and heard throughout the night …

First: one we SAW -

Simsimah Beemer

“Simsimah, who stole the keys to my Beeh-mah …” B E S T !

And during a warm and fuzzy part of the Dallas set, Jay leaned over and told me that “maybe he can’t write me a song, but he CAN buy me a minivan!” It was a (tipsy) cute thing to say.

Bigger shots here.

Let the activities begin! The ones you have to pay for, I mean.

This week, the Bean and I tested out a few dance studios in Ajax to see what they offered for 4 year olds. The truth is – neither showcased anything spectacular.

At the first trial class (studio = Taylor Dance), Bennie was the only boy. Not that he cared, but I kinda did. Also – the place was only one studio space. Pretty small. Overall, Mami wasn’t feelin’ it.

Thankfully, yesterday’s class at DANCE, INC. was more successful (all around). A handful of boys, better teach-to-student ratio and more actual DANCING (as Bennie quickly pointed out).

Twinkle toes, indeed!

^ Nice form, buddy!

I’m sad they don’t just offer the TWINKLE TOES program to anyone who wants to dance. Keens was all over it! My poor Bubba – my attempts to keep the dance inside him were feeble at best!

He's on the loose!

^ There, he escaped my grasp.

Peep the 0:40 and 1:18 marks of this YouTube for Bennie whippin’ out his bboy moves during a game of Freeze Dance.

Hopefully there’s still room in the Wednesday night class to sign him up!

Last soccer sesh

Today Bennie wrapped up his 4-week soccer “class” through the Early Years Centre.

In honor of his last sesh, he wore his Dad’s old team shirt (#4).

The trading card shot!

The trading card shot!

^ He’s got mad pop! The kids were practicing holding the ball with their feet and taking “small hops”; only Bennie did larger leaps.

It gave him a good idea of what to expect from the sport, and he says he’s ready to “be with a team” next Summer. To be continued …

If she was still alive today, …

… she would we be a judge on any of the dance/talent shows. So talented. And beautiful.

I like a lot of her videos, but this one’s for Jay. (He likes the bit with the snake).

Nine years ago already. I was still in California; got the news from KMEL‘s Chuy Gomez. RIP.
